The used car and second hand car markets have blossomed as a direct result of the credit crunch. The credit crunch has ensured that many people have fewer funds to spend on luxury items such as new cars, the second hand car market is moving in to take the new sales place.
Opportunity knocks
Certainly in countries badly hit by the financial downturn such as Spain and Portugal to name just a couple, now is the time to buy a used car if you are in the car market. There are now hundreds of fantastic bargains available covering the entire range of cars from the small town car to the most luxurious prestige cars. Commonly known as Bargain cars or coches de ocasion and used cars or coches usados.
Take care, however, to avoid getting caught by the numerous sharks that have sprung up as quickly as the used car market itself. You should try to find a car that is about 2 years old. A little bit more, maybe, but not too much. The reason for this is that the value of a new car falls rapidly in the first two years so that shortly after the two year mark the car is still in great condition with a very favourable price tag. It is fair to say that people tend to look after their cars well in the first couple of years with interest dropping off quite quickly after that point so, once again, it points to the two year mark as the best moment to pick up a real bargain. This point applies mostly to the smaller lower priced cars because owners of more prestigious cars will tend to be more careful with their investment.
The Crooks out there

Some of the things to look out for are previous unpaid debts hanging over the car such as unpaid finance, unpaid road taxes or a host of other unpaid bills such as parking fines etc. which stay with the car.
