The used car and second hand car markets have blossomed as a direct result of the credit crunch. The credit crunch has ensured that many people have fewer funds to spend on luxury items such as new cars, the second hand car market is moving in to take the new sales place.
Opportunity knocks
Certainly in countries badly hit by the financial downturn such as Spain and Portugal to name just a couple, now is the time to buy a used car if you are in the car market. There are now hundreds of fantastic bargains available covering the entire range of cars from the small town car to the most luxurious prestige cars. Commonly known as Bargain cars or coches de ocasion and used cars or coches usados.
Take care, however, to avoid getting caught by the numerous sharks that have sprung up as quickly as the used car market itself. You should try to find a car that is about 2 years old. A little bit more, maybe, but not too much. The reason for this is that the value of a new car falls rapidly in the first two years so that shortly after the two year mark the car is still in great condition with a very favourable price tag. It is fair to say that people tend to look after their cars well in the first couple of years with interest dropping off quite quickly after that point so, once again, it points to the two year mark as the best moment to pick up a real bargain. This point applies mostly to the smaller lower priced cars because owners of more prestigious cars will tend to be more careful with their investment.
The Crooks out there
As I mentioned earlier, there are also a large and growing number of second hand and coches usados car dealers who are, shall we say, less than honest. Some of the things to look out for are previous unpaid debts hanging over the car such as unpaid finance, unpaid road taxes or a host of other unpaid bills such as parking fines etc. which stay with the car. You will become liable for these debts the moment you change the ownership to your name.
Take advice when you buy
As you will see it is very wise to use a Gestoria or legal helper to go through the purchase process for you. A good Gestoria will not charge much and will check with the traffic police to see if there are any outstanding debts or recent traffic accidents that could have damaged the car badly. And, of course, they will handle all the fiddly legal side of changing the ownership and paying the transfer tax. Definitely to be recommended when buying Coches Usados in Spain.
Deciding whether to buy a car is usually a big decision. Buying either a new or a used car can be a big financial commitment. However, more and more people are beginning to realise that it is more economical to buy a used car rather than a brand new one. Brand new cars have the disadvantage of losing value as soon as you get them whereas used cars will not, plus brand new cars are much more expensive.
You can get great used cars which are in superb condition and some used cars which are only a year old can be great purchases. They look almost new, have low mileage but are much cheaper than buying a brand new model. Buying a used car will work out much more affordable. It is also possible to get fabulous used cars which are a few years old for a fraction of the brand new price.
Certified used car programs can be found at many car dealers these days. Certified used cars must pass many tests and inspections before they are allowed to be sold. At least this way the customer can be guaranteed to be getting a good car.
You know how secure it is to buy a used car from a dealer but how safe is it to purchase a used car from a private seller? There are many people who are selling their old cars in order to raise cash. However, many car buyers do not want to take the risk of buying a privately sold car because they will get no warranty. You will also need to make sure that you are not buying a stolen car or one that has been damaged in an accident. Happily a cars history can now be checked by using the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number).
When you think it’s time to look out for used cars, you are always better off trying to research your vehicles beforehand. Good research lets you find only the best models available. When your research is done, you could very well end up with a great used renault or even a used saab.
You will normally find that you can get a cheaper used car if you buy it in a private sale rather than buying it directly from a car dealer. There are no salaries or overheads for private sellers to worry about. This is the main reason that privately sold used cars are cheaper than those sold by a dealer. But down the road you may discover that what you though was a cheap deal has ended up costing you more money. You could discover that you find out later that the car is not as good as you first thought but that you can do nothing about it. By buying a car in a private sale you are basically agreeing to buy it just as it is. You will pay a price for the car and then after that the car is totally your responsibility. Even if something were to go wrong with the car the next day you could not go back to the seller.
As well as taking a chance on the condition of the car when you buy one privately, you also have to make sure that you do not end up buying a car that has been stolen. You could also find yourself with the prospect of the car being repossessed if the owner still owes money to a bank for the car. That is why you should always make sure to carry out a vehicle check using the vehicle identification number. Then at least you will know that you are unlikely to face any of these problems later on. Even though there are many risks associated with buying privately sold used cars, the majority of them are actually genuine.
So if you decide that it is worth taking the risk you could always ask for the services of a qualified mechanic to come and inspect the car for you. At least then you can have some reassurance that you are buying a good used car. If you have already run a vehicle check and are happy with that and have been given the go ahead from a mechanic, then you might just find that you get quite a bargain.
When you think it’s time to look out for used cars for sale, you are always better off trying to research your vehicles beforehand. Good research lets you find only the best models available. When your research is done, you could very well end up with a great wanted used cars or even a used go-karts.
