Is Your Manhood Dangerous To Your Driving?
The Michelin Man recently went to therapy and found that he needed to get in contact with his inner tube. This need to get in touch with one’s inner self has been true since the dawn of man.
For instance, stone-age man did not drive. But the legacy of his hunting, intense and risk-taking past – traits that enabled him to survive and mate, thereby passing on his genes to future generations – still remain evident in the way in which he typically drives his car today.
There is vast literature concerning research of sex differences in aggression focusing on biological, physiological, evolutionary, developmental, social and cultural factors. There is an overwhelming consensus that human males are much more aggressive, and exhibit aggression in unique ways, in contrast with their female counterparts. These parallel sex differences are seen in practically all other varieties of animal, with the hamster being one of the very few exceptions.
Some other examples of gender differences related to driving a car are:
• Men are less likely to request directions and females find it much more easy to do so.
• If a car breaks down, it is more expected of a man to comprehend what to do and more expected of a female to stand on the shoulder of the road till assistance arrives.
• Men are a lot more likely to criticize other motorists where the other driver can hear them and ladies are far more likely to criticize other drivers silently from fear of retaliation.
• Women would rather their male counterparts to drive while they ride along as passengers.
“Ug, me man.”
The differences separating the sexes in terms of their risk-proneness while driving can be explained, at least in part, employing an evolutionary psychological perspective. This proposes that a great deal of the neural circuitry of the human brain advanced to meet the needs of societies and cultures quite different from our own – that of the hunter gatherer – that existed for over 99% of our evolution as a species. Our 21st century noggins, for that reason, still consist of essentially ‘stone-age’ brains, so the brains of men remain different from those of females in these certain critical respects.
So a tip for you men: “Hey, Grog”, a lot more traffic tickets, far more intense driving and much more traffic collisions, “Not good!”
Until Next Time,
Eddie
