5 More Powerful Weight Loss Tips

By , September 24, 2009

When losing weight, we often need all the help we can get. Here are five powerful, easy to follow tips for losing the weight faster.

1. Add bran flakes to your normal breakfast cereal. Bran flakes have a lot of fiber, and that fiber will help you to feel full longer. Also, with those bran flakes have a banana or an apple. Those fruits are high in fiber and will have the same filling effect.

2. Reward yourself for reaching your goals. For instance, if your goal is to walk a mile a day, at the end of the week do something nice for yourself like buying that best seller you were wanting to read or spending an hour in the spa. Adding motivational rewards into your weight loss efforts is a sure fire way to keep you on track.

3. Change those bad eating habits. Bad eating habits are built over years and years of living an unhealthy lifestyle, but the good news is that it doesn’t take very long to change those bad habits. In fact, research shows that if you can stick with a good habit for 21 days, chances are you’ll keep at it. So work hard those first few weeks and the next thing you know that good eating habit will be second nature.

4. Exercise is good, injuries are bad. It’s easy to get overzealous when you first start exercising to help you lose weight, but if you over do it you could injure yourself. An injury can keep you from being able to exercise again for days or even weeks, which would only hurt your weight loss efforts.

5. Avoid fad diets that promise weight loss without exercise. There’s no healthy way to lose weight that does not involve an exercise routine. Just be sure to check with your doctor before beginning a new exercise plan.

Long Term and Short Term Capital Gains Tax Rate 2008 2009

By , September 24, 2009

Your capital gains tax rate will be figured out depending on the holding period and the type of investment asset. You will be taxed federally on your capital gains and may also be subject to being taxed by your state as well. You will be taxed much higher on short term than long term.

This schedule displays the current long term and short term Federal capital gains tax rates:

  • Long Term Capital Gain longer than one year… 5% for taxpayers in the 10% & 15% bracket, 15% if you are in the 25%, 28%, 33%, & 35% bracket
  • Small Business Stock Gains at least five year… 28%
  • Real Estate longer than one year… 5% or 15% after any exclusion amount
  • Collectibles longer than one year… 28%
  • Collectibles longer than five years… 28%

Beginning in 2008 you will see a change if you are in the 10% or 15% tax bracket. To qualify for this new tax break your income must be below $32,550.00 if you are filing single and less than $65,100.00 if you are married. The new tax rate will be zero for long term capital gains and short term capital gains.

Long term capital gains are taxed at a lower rate than what your regular income will be taxed at. Depending on your income for that tax year you may be pushed in to a higher tax bracket if you received capital gains. This could result in a combination of rates for your income and capital gains. Nice one, my great new dental coverage has just kicked in!

By , September 24, 2009

Yay, my new dental coverage finally kicked in!

It’s been so long since I’ve been insured that I’ve unfortunately found myself suffering from some unnecessary dental pain. Fortunately, that new job I mentioned provides an insurance plan that is actually better than any other insurance I’ve ever had before. So, I’ll be having my mouth done over really well. My coverage is so excellent, it turns out, that now I am actually making plans for going above and beyond just the realm of basic dental measures and seriously thinking about some cosmetic dentistry work also. My kids have been hinting around about getting some invisalign or some laser teeth whitening, so I’m looking into what sort of money we’d have to spend on those services.

The main difficulty, for me, is figuring out how to find a dentist close to home. I honestly feel terrible acknowledging it, but my family completely lacks a regular family dentist that we know and trust. We live in Tampa, Florida, so I’ve been hunting for a Tampa Bay dentist that has a good reputation and has a a lot of good experience with the things we’re looking for. It’s not so easy to find! There are a lot of things to take into account when you’re finding a dentist. Like, for example, I’m not sure if I would want to go to a dentist who got the majority of his experience as a surgeon.

As far as the new types dental services go, I’ve really been thinking about getting some done. The most up-to-date techniques have really been taking off over the past ten years or so. All the time I’ve been hearing about them on television, how much better they are than traditional dental approaches. I’ve been looking around the internet for “sedation dentist Tampa” and it appears as though the techniques and equipment they use is just light years past what you would have been given 25 years ago, so I’m hoping that my family will be able to benefit from such advanced dentistry now that I have a better job. No more emergency dentistry for us!
