Goals Setting: How to Write Goals

Effective goals setting is easy when you follow the Brian Tracy Ultimate Goals Program. When it comes to losing weight, moving up the ladder at work, or any other success that you may desire in life, there is not anything more essential than learning how to write goals that will enhance your confidence. If you set your goals wrong, you will reduce your confidence with failure. To avoid this, make sure your goals are both genuinely achievable and very unambiguous.

The biggest whack to your confidence comes when you recognize you have failed to attain a goal you exerted great efforts to reach. This is what happens when you set goals that are not realistically attainable.

For example, imagine you put in writing that you are going to lose twenty inches off your waist prior to the big party in two weeks. Obviously, this is not going to happen and when the party rolls around you are going to feel anything but confident, right?

A more confidence boosting goal would be to write down that you are going to lose two inches off your waist before the party. If you take immediate action that can truly occur and you will feel confident in your hard work.

If you wish to keep your mind focused on the hope of losing three inches despite this lower goal, there is no harm in that. In fact, it may push you to work harder and improve your odds further of attaining that two inch goal.

Whether you actually arrive at the goal you have held in your mind and actually lose three inches, or you only lose the two inches you wrote down, your confidence will soar.

Practical goals are magnificent, but you will not be able to establish if you have accomplished them if they are not specific. Writing very explicit goals will help you keep on course in the short term. They will in addition make it easier to spot success when it is finally accomplished.

Our previous example of losing two inches is rather detailed, but what if you instead just wrote down that you wish to lose belly fat before the party? What tool would you have to judge improvement and measure success along the way? Not much!

You are better off getting more specific by stating you want to lose two inches and wear a specific pair of blue jeans to the party. Now you can determine your progress and will feel that confidence boost when those jeans slip on without difficulty.

Refuse to give in to the temptation to sit down and toss out your goals quickly. Learning how to write goals effectively requires some thought to what you sincerely desire in life. Be truthful with yourself! Then you can create multiple specific, sensible goals which will ultimately enhance your confidence and take you where you really desire to be.
