Stunning Cala Bona on the Mediterranean Island of Majorca
The holiday destination of Cala Bona and its close neighbour Cala Millor are positioned on the eastern coast of the island of Majorca. The two resorts are very close being just a 5 minute taxi fare or 20 minutes walk if you prefer the exercise. Several of the resorts in Majorca are aimed at either English or German tourists. Cala Bona itself is definitely a British favourite while Cala Millor is a little different as a mixed holiday town where both English and German tourists flock to in large numbers. Cala Bona in Majorca is without doubt the quieter of the two places making it ideal for young families. In Cala Bona most of the evening entertainment is set in local hotels. Cala Bona is probably not for hoidaymakers seeking to taking in a lot of pubs and clubs but Cala Millor offers plenty of night life and as of course is only a 5 minute taxi trip or a 20 minute walk away.
Cala Bona has grown from a tiny Balearic fishing village into a bustling tourist resort on Majorca’s less developed east coast. The original charm of Cala Bona is still very much in evidence as the resort retains several narrow streets. The harbour is the liveliest part of the town of Cala Bona. The harbour has been redeveloped recently and now offers a selection of open air cafes, bars and restaurants. Several tourist excursions from Cala Bona are available at the harbour.
Cala Bona features a few small sandy beaches enclosed between artificial breakwaters forming calm, sheltered lagoons ideal for swimming and paddling in relative safety. In recent years these breakwaters appear to have encouraged for seaweed to accumulate both in the water and on the beach. Son Severa council have started to deal with this problem by removing the seaweed to prevent the problem. The beaches of Cala Bona are now generally as good as they have ever been as a result of thanks to the local council.
Coach transport from Palma Airport often takes about 2 hours to Cala Bona or Cala Millor. Car hire from Cala Bona or from Palma Airport is very competetive in comparison against other Mediterranean hotspots. If you intend to hire a car from Palma it is a good idea to buy a decent map or guide to Majorca before departing.
